Experience

Precision Mechanics Engineer

TU Delft - Mechanical Engineering | Jan 2023 - present

As Precision Mechanics Engineer I have a supportive role for the researchers at the department of Mechanical, Maritime and Material Engineering of the TU Delft, where I help them with designing, manufacturing and using research equipment. Besides my supportive role, I'm also doing full design projects for departments that have no staff available for these projects, where I design and create set-ups or products to be used in research projects.

Skillslab coordinator

TU Delft - Clinical Technology & Technical Medicine | Jun 2014 - present

As coördinator of the Clinical Technology & Technical Medicine Skillslab I am responsible for the equipment as well as the use of the lab. Also I support teachers and students during various practical lessons and tests.

Precision Technician

TU Delft - Mechanical Engineering | Jun 2014 - Dec 2022

As Instrumentmaker (Precision Technician) I had a supportive role for the researchers at the department of Mechanical, Maritime and Material Engineering of the TU Delft, where I helped them with designing, manufacturing and using research equipment.

Floor manager; Design & Technical Support

TU Delft - OperationAIR | Mar 2020 - May 2020

OperationAIR is a project started at the TU Delft because of the ventilator shortage caused by COVID-19. The goal of the project: To design a ventilator able to treat COVID-19 patients, which could be manufactured quickly using available recourses in The Netherlands. My role in this project was to assist the students in the design process and help them build their first prototype, and to oversee everything going on in the lab.

Precision Technician

Eramus MC | Aug 2010 - May 2014

As Instrumentmaker (Precision Technician) I was involved in designing, manufacturing and maintaining auxiliary equipment used in radiotherapy.

Intern Precision Technician

Eramus MC | Sep 2009 - May 2010

During my internship at the Erasmus MC I did a project for my graduation at the Leidse Instrumentmakers School. Besides the main project I also helped reorganize the workshop which had been empty for several years and was mainly used as storage during that time. I also aided in several other projects.

Administrative Programmer

KLM Health Services | Oct 2008 - Dec 2008

As part-time employee I coded a temporary system to automatically process employee sick leave data using php and MySQL. The system has been used for several months until the new official system was put to use.

Intern Precision Technician

Quooker B.V. | Sep 2006 - Feb 2007

As an intern I was assigned the task to create a machine which dried high-pressure kettles after they had undergone a pressure test under water. I designed and built an air pressure controlled machine which also used the pressured air to blow the kettles dry. After testing the machine it was integrated into the production line.

Projects

A jaw clamping device

The department Oral Surgery of the Amsterdam UMC was in need of a way to clamp cadaver jaws in such a way that forces used to extract teeth could be measured. I developed a method of clamping both upper and lower jaw and designed two clamping devices accordingly, one for the upper and one for the lower jaw. The results of the research done with these devices were so well received that there was a follow-up, where we combined the two clamping devices into a single device for clamping both upper and lower jaw. This device is fully adjustable to simulate various positions of a patient during extraction and has an option to add a 6-DOF force sensor to measure extraction forces. A small series of this new design has been manufactured to be used in education practicals in the Amsterdam UMC and for ongoing research. | May 2019 - Nov 2022

A 3D-printable hand prosthesis powered by wrist movement

In the graduation project for my Bachelor's Degree of Mechanical Engineering, I designed and built a crossover of two hand prosthesis, resulting in a body powered hand prosthesis which is built using only FDM 3D-printed or lasercut parts and standard fasteners. | Feb 2021 - Jan 2022

A 3D-printable version of the Delft Cylinder Hand

In the graduation project for my Associate Degree of Engineering, I designed and built a simplified version of the Delft Cylinder Hand, a hydraulic body-powered hand prosthesis, by replacing most parts with FDM 3D-printed PLA parts. | Feb 2019 - Jun 2019

A Cardio-help mock-up

I created this mock-up to replicate the connection of a Cardio-help. With this nurses of the Erasmus MC could practice the movement of attaching the disposable part to the machine without the need of the actual machine. The actual attaching is something not done regularly, but when it has to be done, it has to be quickly and correct, which is the reason this mock-up was needed. | Feb 2014 - Jun 2014

A calibration method for PTW Dosimetry calibration setups

In the Erasmus MC some of the irradiation equipment was being calibrated using a setup from PTW Dosimetry. As this setup itself also needed maintenance it also had to be calibrated every once in a while, but this was quite hard. I developed a simple method using a rigid frame with right angles and notches at set distances, which then could be used together with a dial gauge for calibration. Because of the ease of calibration, PTW Dosimetry has later invited me to their company to demonstrate my method. | Jan 2013 - Apr 2013

Hand-eye coordination measurement setup

In the graduation project for my diploma Research Instrumentmaker Metaal, I designed and built a measurement system for a group of researchers who were researching hand-eye coordination with Alzheimer patients and patients with brain damage. The system was designed in a way that it could be adjusted to accustom different test subjects. | Sep 2009 - May 2010

Photography

I started with photography in 2007 with a nice compact camera. In 2011 I upgraded to my first (crop-frame) DSLR camera and in 2013 I upgraded again to a full-frame DSLR camera which I still use with great pleasure. I mainly shoot photos of animals and nature, although I like to try out other things too. Occasionally I also do photoshoots at weddings and other venues.
